R: Beauty is Objective

Tuesday, September 20th beginning at 7:30 pm in the Calhoun Parlor

In our party's first philosophical debate of the year, join us as we compete to define the meaning of beauty. Does beauty, as David Hume posits, exist "in the mind which contemplates them" or can it be reduced to science?

R: End Big Pharma

Thursday, September 15th beginning at 7:30 pm in the Calhoun Parlor

This week, the Federalist Party will debate the value of modern healthcare in our society. Is the pharmaceutical industry truly advancing society's well-being or are they more focused on creating "conditions" to keep their cash flow high? Should more be done about the use of "neuroenhancing" drugs on college campuses? Is enough being done to eradicate disease in developing nations? And is House still relevant after seven seasons? Join us this week for an enlightening debate and afterwards for pizza and milkshakes at Yorkside.

R: Two Passports are for Traitors

Thursday, September 8th beginning at 7:30 pm in the Calhoun Parlor

After a fantastic first debate last week on the resolution "Fear the Military Class," the Federalist Party will be following up with a debate on the resolution, "Two Passports are for Traitors." In an increasingly globalized world, Americans find themselves spending extended periods of their lives abroad for work and in marriages with spouses from other countries. Whether for themselves or for their children, the decision of deciding a nationality can be an emotional one. Many compromise with dual-citizenship; is this an oxymoron? Should citizenship ever be merely a synonym for convenience when traveling or working abroad? Join us this week for an important debate on the meaning of citizenship in a global world.
